Lagoon and nature

The Grado Lagoon, 90 km² of canals and islets, is an unspoiled natural environment. Highlights include:

  • Fishermen’s huts (casoni), traditional houses in the lagoon;
  • Barbana Island, with its Marian sanctuary and the famous Perdòn procession;
  • Banco d’Orio, with crystal-clear waters and wild landscapes.

Boat trips or bike tours along the city’s cycle paths offer unforgettable views.

The lagoon cycle route

Grado is the final stop of the Alpe Adria Cycle Route, which begins in Salzburg and passes through Aquileia before reaching the island. Crossing the bridge surrounded by the lagoon, with views of Barbana, is a must-see photo opportunity.

Once in the city, you can continue along the cycle paths connecting the historic center, Città Giardino, and Grado Pineta, riding by the sea or under the pine trees.
